History -
The classic story of Mowgli the man-cub was the last project Walt Disney ever worked on. He passed away just as the movie was being finalized. Without his presence, the Disney crew was left on their own to animate the last sequence, "My Own Home". The Jungle Book composer, Richard M. Sherman is quoted saying, "I think Walt would be enourmously proud of our work. It was like he set the foundation and we added the walls. On upcoming movies, his foundation was greatly needed, but we figured things out eventually."
The Jungle Book was being considered to be set aside to honor Walt's passing. But with only one sequence left in the film, the Disney crew decided to complete it. The Jungle Book was an enormous hit, and became an instant box-office leader. It was nominated for an Oscar, for best song, "The Bare Necessities".
